Selling Text Links
Saturday, May 12, 2007
Based on the last article, it was pretty obvious the next one would be about selling text links. It isn't very hard to do. All you have to do is let people know you are selling space. Let people come to you. That is what a lot of sites do. So where to start? And how do you know who to take and well there are a bunch of questions so lets just get started on the different questions.
What's the best way to to let people know you have text links for sale?
Simple, set up an area where you will display the ads and put a "for sale" sign up basically.
Should I accept all offers?
If you are hard up for cash then yes, but if not, you can be picky. You don't want to just link to an adult site if you don't have to.
How much should I charge?
This is a tricky party. If you already have a bunch of text links you could try charging more. Or if you don't agree with a site you could charge more. The basic is look for similar sites and see what they charge. If you can't find a similar site that is willing to tell you how much, well then take a guess. You will have to start out lower, but as a general rule that I followed was once I gave someone a price, I stuck to that price for them. But on the same token, the next person in line would get charged a little more and told the same thing.
How should I handle payment?
I like to use paypal's subscription payments. They auto renew each month so you can expect to get paid without letting someone get extra days for free. Also you can set up all kinds of different plans to let someone "try it out" if you want or you can offer discounts for multiple months paid in advance.
